Once again it has been a while since I have blogged, but I finally found myself actually finding time to blog (which I have missed!)
I read somewhere that to help yourself feel better and stay grounded, try to write down some of the good things in your life and the things that make you happy. When first reading this, I didn't really think anything would come from this experience. But after listing a few things and thinking about it as my day got harder and more stressful, I realized that the things I had written down had actually made a difference because I went back to reading the things I had wrote and feeling better and grateful instead of stressed.
This is what I had written earlier in the day:
Things I'm happy for today
1. Hot water with lemon
-felt more awake, even more so than when I usually drink caffeine, so hooray, I didn't need to drink and depend on caffeine this morning!
-felt healthier and didn't need to drink or eat a bunch of random things this morning like I usually do when I am in a rush or running around at work.
-felt all around happier this morning, it was delicious also ;)
2. Soup of the day (at our local cafe at work)
-the selection they had today was delicious (chicken with wild rice, mmm!)
-I got to have a lunch break
-it's SOUP! one of my favorite things!
3. Blogs (finding new ones)
-I just typed in "random best blogs for women" (thought I would just explore) and got actually a huge hit
-blogs about travel, life, writing, food all really good subjects to read about
4. Seeing good friends who I haven't seen in a while (this actually happened last night but I am still counting it in this list) :)
-I was so stressed out by other people in my life and around me for the last few days, I didn't realize how amazing it is when you actually see great friends! Corny I know! ;)
-surprises are wonderful
5. Making new friends
-part of the great things in life in general
-seeing the greatness in a new person
6. Laughing, just laughing
-this is truly gold in life
-just a cure when you are having a bad day
-I forgot how much I loved to laugh
That's my list!
I know this may seem corny or sappy, but I had to take a step back and realize the simple things that make me happy and be grateful for the small things that make me happy. I know that if I'm having a bad day or feeling stressed, I can think about the things that made me happy for the day and focus on that instead of the stress or negative things going on in my day.
Has anyone else tried this and does it work for you? What are the simple things in life that makes you happy?
